Зта интересная американская спид-металлическая группа была образована в августе 1984 года в Лос-Анджелесе. В оригинальном составе играли музыканты: John Cyriis — вокал (экс Spectre, Abattoir), Juan Garcia — гитара (экс Abattoir), Kurt Colfelt — гитара, George Robb — бас и Chuck Profus — ударные.

В этом составе Agent Steel записали свою дебютную демо-ленту «144 Thousand Gone», которая обратила на них внимание специализированной прессы. А первого сентября 1984 года состоялся сценический дебют группы в Лос-Анджелесе. Группа подписала контракт с независимой фирмой грамзаписи Roadrunner, и уже в следующем году появилась их дебютная пластинка «Sceptic Apocalypse». Альбом получил восторженные рецензии критики и неплохо продавался по обе стороны Атлантики. Однако успех стал причиной трений внутри коллектива. В конце 1985 — начале 1986 года дважды меняется басист. Сначала в Agent Steel играл Mike Zaputil (экс Sexist, Letchen Grey), потом Brian East (экс Savage Grace). Затем группу покинул основатель Juan Garcia. Позднее работал в EvilDead. В итоге второй альбом записывали: Cyriis, Profus, Richard Bateman — бас, James Murphy — гитара и J. Westlord — гитара. Альбом был посвящен футуристической теме борьбы с инопланетными захватчиками и получил солидный отклик. Осенью 1988 года Cyriis решил уйти из музыки, вслед за ним Agent Steel в направлении Nasty Savage оставил Bateman.

Скандал, вспыхнувший в 1988-м году между группой и ее менеджером, стал для Agent Steel смертным приговором. Однако, группа была возрождена в 1999 году.
