The year is 1600, the setting is the Battle of Sekigahara, perhaps Japan's most brutal civil war. Amidst the bloodshed the world's two greatest samurai, Mibu Kyoshiro and Onime-no-Kyo take center stage and square off in an epic battle. Their heated duel is interrupted when a "star" comes crashing down to Earth completely engulfing the battlefield.

Jump four years ahead to 1604, Mibu Kyoshiro has lost touch with his violent past and now helps others as a peace-loving medicine man. By chance, Kyoshiro runs into Yuya Shiina, a bounty hunter scouring Japan in search of the man with a cross shaped scar on his back who murdered her brother. However, Kyoshiro and Yuya are soon thrown into battle. Just as it looks hopeless for Kyoshiro something awakens from deep within him and a newfound strength is emerges. Kyoshiro's eyes turn a deep, striking red and suddenly Onime-no-Kyo, legendary slayer of 1000 men, appears.
