Appleseed Alpha (2014) — original Japanese title アップルシード アルファ (Appurushīdo Arufa) is a fully CG reimagining of Masamune Shirow’s Appleseed, directed by Shinji Aramaki. This entry serves as a gritty reboot, focusing on a younger Deunan and Briareos in a harsher, post-apocalyptic setting, with a more grounded tone than the earlier films. Audio options include English 5.1 and Japanese 5.1, plus a Japanese 2.0 commentary track featuring director Shinji Aramaki, producer Joseph Chou, and Tony Ishizuka (Sony Pictures). The commentary is in Japanese, with optional English, Dutch, French, German, Korean, and Spanish subtitles. Featurettes are a mix of English and Japanese, covering production insights, CG design choices, and the film’s approach to rebooting the Appleseed universe.
