En janvier 1972, Aretha Franklin, que le père, le célèbre révérend C.L. Franklin, avait élevé pour devenir chanteuse de gospel donna ce que d'aucuns considèrent la performance de sa vie à la New Temple Missionary Baptist Church de Los Angeles, accompagnée par le révérend James Cleveland et la Southern California Community Choir. Cet album, d'abord paru en juin 1972 sous la forme d'un double album, a été remasterisé en version audiophile. Gagnant d'un Grammy, il est le plus gros vendeur de la carrière de Franklin et il détient toujours le record du disque live de gospel le plus vendu.

Il s'agit de l'album original remasterisé en version audiophile.
