Plus qu’un buzz. Plus qu’un secret bien gardé. Avant même de publier le premier album portant son nom, Arnaud Dolmen s’est imposé comme un batteur virtuose et surtout original. Ce Tonbé lévé permet de découvrir le compositeur doué qu’il est aussi. Après avoir épaulé Jacques Schwarz-Bart, Naïssam Jalal, David Linx, Ray Léma, Olivier Ker Ourio ou bien encore Yosuke Onuma, il est ici à la tête d’un quartet composé de Leonardo Montana au piano et au Fender Rhodes, d’Adrien Sanchez au saxophone et de Joachim Govin à la contrebasse. Ensemble et avec l’aide de nombreux invités (Lionel Loueké, Mario Canonge, Fanm Ki Ka, Erik Pédurand, Cynthia Abraham, Irving Acao et Jasmina Legros), ils mêlent jazz et rythmiques caribéennes, celles du Gwoka, la musique et danse traditionnelle de la Guadeloupe dont Dolmen est originaire. Sortie de l’album « Tonbé Lévé » + Invités surprises

Axé sur une esthétique de Jazz contemporain, Tonbé Lévé, premier album d'Arnaud Dolmen, est mélangé aux rythmiques caribéennes dont celle du Gwoka, musique et danse traditionnelle de la Guadeloupe dont il est originaire. Sur les 13 pistes composées par le batteur international* figurent cinq invités de renom dont le pianiste Mario Canonge et le guitariste Lionel Loueke. Arnaud et ses trois acolytes libèrent des mélodies simples et élaborées. En collaborant avec Jacques Schwarz-Bart, Naïssam Jalal ou encore David Linx, le chef d’orchestre aux deux baguettes offre à Tonbé Lévé une dimension abstraite, unique et représentative de notre monde. Dès l’âge de cinq ans, Arnaud étudie le ka, tambour du gwoka (musique traditionnelle de la Guadeloupe) puis, la batterie à l’Atelier Marcel Lollia dit «Vélo», sous la direction de Georges Troupé, dans sa Guadeloupe natale.

Son talent est officiellement révélé par son implication au sein de l’orchestre Kimbòl durant son adolescence. Grâce à cette formation, il savoure ses premiers festivals (les Orchestrades de la Caraïbe, de Brive, etc.) et émissions télévisées.
Très jeune, il collabore avec des artistes de tous azimuts. Sa précocité et sa pratique boulimique de l’instrument lui permettent déjà de s’adapter aisément à divers genres musicaux tels que le gwoka, le jazz ou encore les musiques caribéennes.

Frôlant la majorité en 2003, le prodige guadeloupéen s’envole vers Toulouse pour poursuivre ses études de musique à l’école de Batterie Dante Agostini, dirigé par Daniel Dumoulin. Parallèlement, il suit un cursus de Comptabilité et de Gestion. Cinq après, fraîchement diplômé et couronné du premier prix de l’école, il débute sa carrière professionnelle sur la scène Nationale et Internationale.

Durant ses études de batterie et de comptabilité, Arnaud se glisse vaillamment dans le milieu professionnel. Repéré par Franck Nicolas à l’âge de 16 ans à Pointe-à-Pitre (Guadeloupe), Arnaud signe avec lui, trois ans plus tard, ses premiers contrats. C’est ainsi qu’ils rencontrent et collaborent avec Alain Jean-Marie, Jean-Christophe Maillard, Michel Alibo, Mario Canonge entre autres. Il connaitra son premier Zénith, ses premières tournées, (nationales, caribéennes) en tant que musicien professionnel au sein du célèbre groupe SOFT.

Sonny Troupé, qu’il considère comme son frère spirituel depuis l’âge de 5 ans participe à l’ascension d’Arnaud. Ses conseils précieux propulsent Arnaud jusqu’à sa première tournée Internationale dans des festivals prestigieux de Jazz avec Jacques Schwarz-Bart. Ce saxophoniste croit en son talent et leurs collaborations deviennent régulières. Fin 2009, le batteur rejoint la Capitale française. Il multiplie alors ses rencontres, crée son propre réseau et devient un batteur incontournable, sur la scène nationale…

En parallèle, de 2004 à 2013, il est le fer de lance de trois projets jazz:

Le premier est ZETLIYO qu’il fonde à 19 ans à Toulouse. Ce trio d’amis a réuni son complice depuis le lycée, Jonathan Jurion au piano et Gwenaël Ladeux à la basse électrique. Leur répertoire s’articule autour de reprises des grands classiques de la musique du Jazz Caribéen, des œuvres de Michel Petrucciani, Pat Metheny, et des prémices de leur composition. Zetliyo est dans une recherche d’un Jazz ouvert tout en respectant les codes de la tradition caribéenne. Grâce à cette formation, Arnaud commence à travailler sa personnalité. De 2004 à 2009, ce groupe sillonne les clubs de jazz majoritairement dans le sud de la France. Avec des limites extensibles, le trio se transforme en quartet avec Sylvain Joseph voire quintet. Il accompagne, entre autres, le chanteur percussionniste Alexandre Duventru, Voices Soulshine, Erik Pédurand et la chanteuse guinéenne Sia Tolno. Avec elle, ils font les premières parties de Lura et de la grande Césaria Evora (Grand Rex, 2011).

Le second projet est le FDH TRIO qu’il cofonde dans la ville rose, en 2008, avec le pianiste Thibaud Dufoy et le bassiste Elvin Bironien. Ce trio présente un répertoire original essentiellement composé par le pianiste. Grâce au FDH Trio, Arnaud approfondit son jeu Jazz et compose son premier morceau « Nonotime ». Leur originalité est couronné par divers prix: Prix du public du tremplin Jazz à Porquerolles, Finaliste de l’édition 2010 du Concours National de Jazz à la Défense, 1er prix du jury des Golden jazz trophy 2012 présidé par Omar Sosa. Ils se produisent aux festivals: Jazz sur 31, Jazz à Millau, Souillac en Jazz, Jazz en nord, les Afters Hours du Duc des Lombards, Caribéennes de Mai etc… En 2012, ils réalisent l’album «Le free du hazard ?» avec en invités Jacques Schwarz-Bart, Mino Cinelu et Sonny Troupé.

Oxygéné par la capitale française, Arnaud crée en 2010 le NONO EXPERIMENT qui évolue jusqu’à 2013. Il rassemble quatre amis musiciens: Jonathan Jurion, Ralph Lavital, Sylvain Joseph et Damien Nueva. Le quintet présente une musique composée par chacun d’eux, suivant l’esthétique du jazz moderne New-Yorkais tout en restant ancré à leur bassin naturel de la Caraïbes. Une fois par mois le public savoure leur live, lors de leur résidence d’une année au Baiser Salé. Cette aventure parisienne s’exporte jusqu’en Guadeloupe où durant une semaine, le Nono Experiment effectue une résidence, clôturée par deux concerts marquants.

A partir de Novembre 2014, Arnaud anime des Jam Sessions au Bab-Ilo avec des musiciens d’univers différents. Cette résidence mensuelle, qui résonne entre les murs de ce club de jazz parisien, contribua à sceller l’harmonie recherchée de sa musique envoûtante. Parmi les invités, on compte: Enzo Carniel, Laurent Coq, Laurent Coulondre, Mario Canonge, Christophe Panzani, Jérémy Bruyère, Munir Hossn, Grégory Privat, Natasha Rogers, Léonardo Montana, Adrien Sanchèz et Joachim Govin.

La jam attire un public cosmopolite et authentique. Beaucoup de personnalités sont présentes et partagent la scène telles que Ambrose Akimusire, Harold Lopez Nussa, Lukmil Pérèz, Sonny Troupé, Naïssam Jalal etc. Cette jam devient un laboratoire expérimental inédit dans la capitale et très attendu chaque mois.

En 2015, Arnaud ose tracer sa route audacieuse vers une nouvelle aventure : son projet personnel le « Arnaud Dolmen Quartet », un savoureux mélange de jazz et de fragrances caribéennes. Plus d’informations

TONBÉ LÉVÉ

International drummer Arnaud Dolmen announced the release of his first album “Tonbé Lévé” for the 6th of October. Focused on a contemporary Jazz aesthetic, this opus is a mix of Caribbean rhythms and more precisely of Gwoka, traditional music from Guadeloupe. On the 13 tracks entirely composed by the guadeloupean prodigy (except for “Sonjé Joj“ track), five renowned international guests brighten up the album: Mario Canonge, Lionel Loueke, Fanm Ki Ka, Erik Pédurand and Cynthia Abraham.

In line with Antonio Sanchèz or Danilo Pérez, Arnaud and his three acolytes let go simple and elaborate melodies with accurate arrangements.

The eminent French jazz pianist, writer and composer Laurent de Wilde is already convinced of the success of Arnaud and makes it clear by saying “not content of being an outstanding drummer, Arnaud Dolmen is an intense and inspired composer. Undoubtedly, people will have to deal now with this inescapable musician”.

Caribbean, family, and hope are the three major themes explored by the jazzman. His music is a call to perseverance. An almost insolent optimism to never let the life’s experiences knock us down. Arnaud Dolmen, the conductor with two chopsticks, delivers this message: The dizziness of life is a strength.

By working with Jacques Schwarz-Bart, Naïssam Jalal, and David Linx, the drummer offers to “Tonbé Lévé” an abstract, unique and representative dimension of our world. His transcendent notes defend not one identity but multiples identities. Thus, testifying of the multicultural mixing with a solid caribbean roots, of which is proud this leader.

Arnaud has been revealed professionally in 2007. “Tonbé Lévé” is an unequivocally consecration “I already had ideas about my desired artistic direction. Several compositions were ready, but in fact I was afraid. Then in 2013, I started to work on myself. I explored outside my comfort zone, and this this album came to life”.

The album was recorded at Studio Les Bruères (France) in November 2015 by Tony Paeleman, mixed by Boris Darley and mastered by Pierre Vandeweater. It is entirely produced by Arnaud Dolmen himself.

The pianist, Leonardo Montana endorses the poet’s position. He colors and dresses music with an exquisite romance. On the saxophone, Adrien Sanchèz is the counter. With a wide and warm sound, he offers a cutting edge and original phrasing. The double bass player, Joachim Govin, is the binder of the quartet. He displays a groove featuring a beautiful and round sound. Finally, the conductor and drummer maintains his aerial and unpredictable play with incisive and revisited jazz and Gwoka rhythms of the Jazz.

Whether it is a collaboration on stage or in the studio, each of his musical encounter nourishes his creativity and leaves an indelible mark on his pair of drumstick.

Born and raised in Guadeloupe, Arnaud discovered music as a child. Indeed, he studied Gwoka music (traditional music of Guadeloupe), a bridge which linked him to the Ka (drums played in gwoka) then to the classic drums at the Marcel Lollia «Vélo» School (under the artistic direction of Georges Troupé).

Thanks to his commitment and dedication within Kimbol orchestra, Arnaud’s burgeoning talent was revealed. During his adolescence, his hard work led him to his first festivals, performances, and tv shows (les Orchestrades de la Caraïbe, de Brive, etc.).
As a very young musician, he collaborates with different artists. His precocity and avid intense practice of this instrument enable him to effortlessly become familiar to various musical styles such as gwoka, jazz or zouk music. The richness of his musical culture soon helps him shape his own unique music.

Approaching the age of legal majority, the guadeloupean prodigy flied to Toulouse (France) in order to improve his musical background at the Dante Agostini Drums School. Freshly graduated with honors with the prestigious Jury First Prize, he begins his professional path at a national and international level.

During his music and accountant studies, Arnaud takes the leap to the professional world. Discovered by Franck Nicolas at the age of 16 in Pointe a Pitre (Guadeloupe), Arnaud signed to his label and starts his first contracts three years later.
His path crosses renowned artists such as Alain Jean-Marie, Jean-Christophe Maillard, Michel Alibo and Mario Canonge. with whom he collaborated. His first scene at the prestigious Parisian venue Le Zenith was alongside the famous Caribbean band SOFT and it opened the door to many national and Caribbean tours.
One of his closest friends from childhood, Sonny Troupé, whom he considered like a brother, participated in his ascension with his precious guidance that led him to his first international tour for the prestigious Jazz Festivals with Jacques Schwarz-Bart.
The saxophonist believes in Arnaud’s talent and they start collaborating on a regular basis. At the end of 2009, the drummer moved to Paris where he meets many artists, build his network and becomes a key drummer in the Parisian musical scene.

From 2004 to 2013, Arnaud starts three Jazz projects:

The first one, ZETLIYO, was founded at 19 in Toulouse. The trio is composed of three high school friends, Jonathan Jurion on the piano, Gwenaël LADEUX on the electric bass. Their repertoire focuses on covers of Caribbean Jazz classics, such as Michel Petrucciani andPat Metheny. Zetliyo is looking for an open form of Jazz while respecting the codes and tradition of the style. Thanks to this formation, Arnaud is starting to find his own voice. The trio extends and welcomes Sylvain Joseph, and the new formed quartet starts working with singer and percussionist Alexandre, Duventru, Voices Soulshine, Erik Pedurand, and the Guinean singer Sia Tolno, with whom they open for Lura and the renowned singer Cesaria Evora (Grand Rex, 2011).

The second one is FDH TRIO which he co-founded with both Thibaud Dufoy pianist and Elvin Bironien bass player, in Toulouse in 2008. This trio offers an original repertoire mainly composed by the pianist.
Thanks to FDH Trio, Arnaud enhances his Jazz play and composes his first song “Nonotime”. Their originality is crowned with various awards: Public Prize of the Porquerolles Jazz platform, Finalist of the 2010 National Jazz Competition of La Defense, 1st prize of the jury of the Golden Jazz Trophy in 2012 chaired by Omar Sosa. They performed at festivals: Jazz on 31, Jazz in Millau, Souillac in Jazz, Jazz in North, the Afters Hours of the Duc des Lombards, Caribbean of May, etc. In 2012, they release their album “The free of hazard?” with famous guests as Jacques Schwarz-Bart, Mino Cinelu and Sonny Troupé.

Breathing the French capital oxygen, Arnaud found in 2010 the NONO EXPERIMENT. Until 2013, he gathers four friends: Jonathan Jurion, Ralph Lavital, Sylvain Joseph and Damien Nueva. The quintet displays a music composed by each of them, fitting the modern jazz attractive of New York, meanwhile stay anchored to their Caribbean root. Once a month, the Baiser Salé Jazz Club audience relish their live performance during their annual residence. This Parisian adventure reachs Guadeloupe where they work during a one-week residence, closing with two outstanding shows.

Starting in November 2014, Arnaud-surrounded by talented musicians-has been hosting the Jam Sessions at Bab-Ilo Jazz Club. This monthly residence resonated within the walls of the Parisian jazz club and helped seal the harmony desired for Arnaud’s captivating music. Guests at the Bab-Ilo Jazz club included : Enzo Carniel, Laurent Coq, Laurent Coulondre, Mario Canonge, Christophe Panzani, Jérémy Bruyère, Munir Hossn, Grégory Privat, Natasha Rogers, Léonardo Montana, Adrien Sanchèz and Joachim Govin.

The jam attracts a cosmopolitan and authentic public. Many personalities were present and share the stage as Ambrose Akimusire, Harold Lopez Nussa, Lukmil Pérèz, Sonny Troupé, Naïssam Jalal etc. This jam becomes an unique experimental laboratory in the romantic capital and eargerly awaited each month.

In 2015 after leading various projects, today Arnaud is drawing his bold path to a new adventure « Arnaud Dolmen Quartet », a beautiful blend of Jazz music and Caribbean fragrances.
