The Book presents a background to conventional foundation analysis and design. The origin of the text is two-fold. First, it is a compendium of the contents of the courses in foundation design given by the author during his years as Professor at the University of Ottawa, Department of Civil Engineering. Second, it serves as a background document to the software marketed by the author in collaboration with former students in UniSoft Ltd. The text is not intended to replace the much more comprehensive ‘standard’ textbooks, but rather to support and augment these in a few important areas, supplying methods applicable to practical cases handled daily by practicing engineers.
