In hartje Stockholm wordt een man levend begraven. Plots duiken overal houten kisten op waarin
de slachtoffers op dezelfde gruwelijke wijze werden vermoord. Het is aan Martin Beck en zijn
team om af te rekenen met de sadistische seriemoordenaar die verantwoordelijk is voor al deze
gruweldaden. Maar de dader lijkt hen steeds een stap voor te zijn
Beck: Buried Alive is de laatste film die in de Beck-serie werd gemaakt. Liefhebbers hoeven
echter niet bang te zijn dat de film onbegrijpelijk is zonder de vier seizoenen van Beck eerst
te bekijken. Voorkennis is niet nodig bij dit verhaal, dat gebaseerd is op de misdaadromans die
het Zweedse echtpaar Sjöwall en Wahlöö schreef in de jaren zeventig. Distributeur Lumière geeft
ook een box uit met de boekverfilmingen onder de titel: Beck: De Boekverfilmingen. Kan niet
missen. Buried Alive is dus gebaseerd op de personages uit de boeken, maar is minstens net zo
goed als het origineel.

Beck: Buried Alive, is weer een Scandinavische thriller in de inmiddels lange traditie van o.a.
Wallander en Van Veeteren. Inspecteur Martin Beck, gespeeld door Peter Haber, moet een
sadistische seriemoordenaar zien te stoppen die overal in Stockholm mensen levend begraaft. Hij
wordt daarbij bijgestaan door zijn trouwe collega Gunvald Larsson, een rol van Mikael
Persbrandt. Het Nederlandse publiek kent Peter Haber van zijn meer sinistere rol als Martin
Vanger in Millennium I (Mannen Die Vrouwen Haten), een rol die in fel contrast staat met de
innemende Beck. De rol van de Zweedse politieinspecteur zit Haber als gegoten, ook niet vreemd
na maar liefst 26 episodes van 90 minuten. Beck is echter niet alleen sterk door de
hoofdinspecteur, de serie moet het ook hebben van zijn humor. Het korte lontje en sarcasme van
Larsson zorgt voor de nodige ontspanning tijdens de opsporingen. Ook grappig is de gekke
buurman van Beck, die met een band om zijn nek permanent ziekteverlof lijkt te hebben en altijd
wel in is voor een drankje.

De plot is vergelijkbaar met de meeste Scandinavische thrillers. Het zit goed in elkaar, met
aandacht voor menselijke psyche en voldoende wendingen. Het onderwerp van de film is wel wat
minder maatschappelijk georiënteerd dan te zien is bij het oorspronkelijke werk van Sjöwall en
Wahlöö, maar dit is eerder een ontbrekend pluspunt dan een minpunt. Een spannende film, en een
leuke mogelijkheid om kennis te maken met Beck.

Beck: Buried Alive is the last movie in the Beck series was made. Fans need not worry that the
film is unintelligible without the four seasons of Beck first post. Previous experience is not
necessary in this story, based on the crime novels of the Swedish couple Sjöwall Wahlöö and
wrote in the seventies. Distributor Lumière also gives a box with the book under the title
screen adaptations: Beck: The Book adaptations. Can not miss. Buried Alive is based on the
characters from the books, but is at least as good as the original.

Beck: Buried Alive, is another Scandinavian thriller in the now long tradition of including
Wallander and Van Veeteren. Inspector Martin Beck, played by Peter Haber, a sadistic serial
killer who try to stop burying people alive everywhere in Stockholm. He is assisted by his
faithful colleague Gunvald Larsson, played by Mikael Brandt Press. The Dutch public knows Peter
Haber of its more sinister role as Martin Fowler in Millennium I (Men Who Hate Women), a role
that stands in stark contrast with the winning Beck. The role of the Swedish police inspector
Haber sits like a glove, not surprising after less than 26 episodes of 90 minutes. Beck is not
only strongly influenced by the Superintendent, the series should also have his sense of humor.
The short fuse and sarcasm Larsson provides the necessary relaxation during the investigations.
Also funny is the crazy neighbor Beck, who with a band around his neck seems to have
permanently sick and always in for a drink.

The plot is similar to most Scandinavian thrillers. It is very well organized, with emphasis on
human psyche and enough twists. The subject of the film is somewhat less socially oriented than
is visible in the original work of Sjöwall and Wahlöö, but this is more a plus than a minus
missing. An exciting film, and a nice opportunity to get acquainted with Beck.
