An unidentified body is found in the remains of a trailer following a fire at a run-down caravan park. The owner of the trailer - a young drug addict - is unaccounted for, prompting police to wonder whether the body found at the scene is hers. Suspicion falls on a local neighbourhood watch scheme, and eager for the investigation to yield results, police supervisor Klas Fredén recruits the charismatic Norwegian homicide investigator Steinar Hovland to head up the inquiry. The newcomer wastes no time in placing himself at the head of Beck's team, resulting in a power struggle that leave Martin feeling disconnected from his old self.
