Malheureusement disparu trop tôt à l'age de 49 ans, Bill Perry nous a laissé 7 albums très très bons. Celui-ci est le deuxième et sort en 1998. Piano, orgue, cuivres, le blues du guitariste swingue comme les plus grands big-bands et dans la lignée de Popa Chubby, Monster Mike Welch ou Steve Johnson , notre musicien ratisse large. Un ou deux Delta blues, bottleneck compris, à l'ancienne manière « trust in you », des rythmes soul blues « in pain » ou funky « come on in my kitchen », une reprise de Robert Johnson.. Bill Perry puise dans le répertoire des pionniers et met le feu au Delta grâce à des chorus tranchants et à un son boosté. Comme un tapis roulant, les cuivres et les claviers enrichissent une rythmique millimétrée où Bill développe ses solos charnus bourrés de feeling et, parmi des titres personnels, reprend et transcende le « blue suede shoes » de Carl Perkins. A l'écoute des ces 13 morceaux excellents ( 52mn04 ) on déplore encore plus la disparition de ce grand bluesman moderne qui nous aurait sûrement encore comblé.Par GégéBlues
