Yuji Nimura (Joe Odagiri) and Mamoru Arita (Tadanobu Asano) are two restless young men working in a towel factory. Bound by quiet rage and a strange pet poisonous jellyfish that Mamoru is trying to adapt to freshwater, their lives take a sudden turn when Mamoru commits a violent act.
