An Australian band known primarily for its loud and heavy sound. The band's history began in 1966, when vocalist Dave Tice and bassist Peter Wells performed in the Brisbane band The Odd Colours. They later worked with Strange Brew and The Capitol Show Band, and in 1969, along with guitarist Neil Jensen and drummer Steve Jones, they formed the band Head. Seeking their fortune, the quartet moved to Sydney, but big-city life knocked Neil and Steve out of the saddle, and their places were taken by John Baxter (ex-Mandala) and Peter Leighton (ex-Aftermath). The reformed band quickly earned a solid reputation, and Phonogram Records allowed them to release the single "Hobo." Soon after the release, Leyton was replaced by Paul Balbi, and Alan Milano (ex-Mandala) was recruited to assist Tice. Since the band was aiming for a heavier sound, it was decided to change its name to the more appropriate "Buffalo." Over time, the fame of the rising Australian rock band spread across the continent, and in 1972, the musicians were offered a contract by the British label Vertigo. The first studio release was the single "Suzie Sunshine," which featured a cover of Chuck Berry's "No Particular Place To Go" on the B-side. Much to the label's (and the musicians') dismay, radio stations ignored the song, but the full-length album "Dead Forever..." was released in quick succession. Since Buffalo loved to crank up their amps at concerts, the record, at their request, was released with a "play this album LOUD!" sticker. Meanwhile, the band's dynamics weren't ideal, leading to the departure of Milano and Balbi. Jim Economou took over drums, and thus the lineup that is considered classic was formed
