En 1970, Andrew Latimer, Doug Ferguson et Andy Ward forment un trio nommé The Brew.
Ils ne jouent pas encore du rock progressif mais du blues, et commencent à se faire connaître
du grand public. L’année suivante, le groupe recrute l’organiste Peter Bardens et décide
d’abandonner le blues pour un style qui commence à se faire connaître notamment
grâce à des groupes comme King Crimson ou Genesis : le rock progressif.
