The album spent five weeks at #1 on the Billboard charts and quickly went gold,[2] as did its leadoff single, "You're So Vain",
which remained at #1 on the Pop charts for three weeks, and #1 on the Adult Contemporary charts for two weeks.25 years after
its initial release, the album was officially certified platinum on December 12, 1997.
The photograph for the cover, taken by Ed Caraeff, was taken in front of the Portobello Hotel, on Stanley Gardens in London's
Notting Hill.The cover attracted attention because the erect nipples of the braless Carly Simon could be discerned through
her shirt.
