MUSIC REVIEW
En 1969, deux étudiants locaux, Gordon Jones et Bob Thomas, passionnés de cordes,
de guitares et de mandolines, se sont rencontrés à Édimbourg. Tous deux jouaient des instruments
dans des clubs folkloriques locaux et s'intéressaient tous deux à la musique folklorique.
C'était l'époque du renouveau folklorique, l'époque de la création des clubs folkloriques et du soutien
de l'État à la musique et à la culture traditionnelles dans de nombreux pays. Et cette fois était étonnamment
riche en vrais bisons folkloriques, c'est alors que se sont formées ces idées qui sont encore développées
par de nombreux adeptes. Et comme tout était varié !
A cette époque, il y avait déjà Ian Campbell Folk Group, "Scottish Dubliners", et The Corries, avec tout
leur riche arsenal de techniques vocales et instrumentales, et les harpistes Ossian. Et en 1974, il y avait
des cornemuses et des cordes Tannahill Weavers, Runrig moderne "rock celtique".
Pourtant, Silly Wizard, même avec toute la richesse du choix de la musique écossaise de cette époque et des suivantes,
était un groupe unique. Ils ont combiné la compétence instrumentale unique des frères Cunningham avec le style
de performance caractéristique d'Andy Stewart, dont la voix reconnaissable et légèrement nasillarde
a apporté une belle mélancolie supplémentaire aux ballades écossaises déjà tristes.
