Our man in Los Angeles returns after a little delay this month with Session number 10, and boy are you in for a treat.

Dday One has been busy beavering away on new music and live shows, as you may have noticed in our latest featured video for his track ‘Between Poles’ which is taken from the latest release on his Content Label, a split 10″ between himself and Glen Porter featuring some killer artwork and a delicious vinyl package. You can buy the release digitally or physically via the bandcamp, the vinyl is extra limited so get in quick!

Still the man has found time to come through with a new show after hooking up our recent guest mixes from the Rotaug collective. No themes on this one as the man explains:

"Welcome to another edition of Rhythm Incursions. This session deviates from the previous topic-based/themed “in session” mixes with a straight 60-min mix of new releases, classics and exclusives.
Enjoy the mix and please make sure to support the featured artists."

And when he says classics he’s not messing about. He resent the mix through last week after having digitised part of his tape collection so that the show begins with a very rarely heard freestyle from L.A luminaries such as Aceyalone and P.E.A.C.E from 1992! A real treat. And then you’ve got an hour of tasty new music from Dibiase, Eskmo, ichiro_, Dday himself, Andreya Triana and more.

So without further ado I’ll let you get stuck in. Next up is the latest Friend of Friends mix series, with our regular Rhythm Incursions show delayed due to life priorities taking over – I’m hoping to drop it before month’s over though.

Hello and welcome to another edition of Rhythm Incursions “In-Session” with your selector Dday One broadcasting from Mid-City Los Angeles, CA

This episode is the first in the “Selections” mix series. Selections will cover topic specific mixes, for example genre, era and events. This month’s “Selection” is a 60 min celebration of classic breaks, jazz, prog-rock and soul music from Japan.

Most of the music featured comes from records stores and supporters on visits to Japan. The most recent visit was early March for Superheadz VJ’s presents “Live Harinezumi No Mori“, then returning home two days before the March 11th earthquake and tsunami. After getting word of the event, days where spent checking the well being of friends in the region and reflecting. This mix comes out those reflections.

With news transmitting at light-speed it’s easy to forget but I hope this mix helps to keep those affected by the devastation in your thoughts and prayers.

This latest instalment of Rhythm Incursions’ “In Session” series is a tribute to the art of preservation and mixtape culture.

During the process of digitally restoring and preserving tapes for my forthcoming early works project “Mood Algorithms” I decided to also digitize some mixtapes from the same period to share with you.

“Stems of Hip Hop” was created circa 99/00 (pre internet download era) with a turntable, mixer, tons of vinyl and a four-track as a tribute to advancements in experimental hip hop music and drum and bass that spawned from the pioneering days of hip-hop production and sampling. The original physical tape was available throughout Los Angeles at spots like Fat Beats (Hollywood), Beat Non Stop (Melrose) and also at shows as well as circulated/dubbed amongst friends. In an effort to continue the process of sharing this work I’ve digitized it and am putting it out as part of my “In Session” series. So please download and share… spread worldwide!

Взяв в компанию вертушки, сэмплер и коллекцию винилок, собранную за 15 лет, он записал свой дебютный «Loop Extensions», а затем «Heavy Migration», которые звучат в лучших традициях лейблов Ninja Tune и Mo Wax. Dday One was born and raised in Los Angeles, CA. He has a double major in hiphop as a turntablist and samplist. He also has a minor in graffiti art (as do most b-boys), noticeable by his signature. His obsession with manipulating vinyl records started in the early 1990’s, when at the age of 11 he began exploring the depths of Los Angeles’ thrift shops and record stores.

Without a sampler at the time, his first compositions were made by engaging in sessions of “dropping the needle” (placing the needle repeatedly in the same spot of a record to emulate the repetition of a break in a song) and repeatedly looping the desired sample segments on a tape deck. After using this method of creating beats and amassing stacks of records from years of beat mining, he furthered his manipulation of vinyl and love of music by utilizing the sequencing capabilities of a sampler.
