Dead Island: Riptide is directly followed the particular first-person survival horror game Dead Island, developed by Techland Polish team. A game that is based on hybridization of genres and different characteristics: FPS as a general approach for framing and first-person RPG with regard to the evolution of the characters with distinctive skill tree and crafting equipment and weapons.

This second chapter follows the structure of the progenitor but inserted in a setting new, always located in the tropical surroundings, but more wide and varied than the huge holiday resort island of Banoi. A monsoon hit what was a peaceful archipelago and violent storms have devastated large portions of its islands, all of course accompanied by the spread of the epidemic that makes the inhabitants of zombies hungry for human flesh.

The city of Henderson and the jungle on the island of Palanai were flooded and the boats were the only means of transport used to move from one area to another. The unstable weather conditions affect the visibility and accessibility to various areas, and the ability to move from urban areas to other completely wild determine substantial differences in terms of setting and approach to the map.

A fifth new character with unique skills has also joined the original team, which continues in this second chapter of her desperate escape from the horror, however, worsened by the appearance of new, unknown and terrible zombie mutations appeared in the whole area of game.
