From the moment he appeared as a serious participant in Australian popular music in 1966 he commanded attention. Thirty years later he is a true household name - known as one of the great distinctive Oz Rock voices and musical mainstays. In And Out Of Focus 1966-75 kicks off with three tracks by the Questions, Doug's first hit band - 'Sally Go 'Round The Roses' (a Top 15 Sydney hit), 'Hey Gyp' & 'And Things Unsaid'. Second place-getters at the 1967 National Battle of the Sounds, the soulful Questions set the insulated Melbourne disco scene alight when they first ventured out of Sydney, causing Ian Meldrum to gush in Go-Set, 'Believe me this is one group not to miss. Doug Parkinson has a soulful voice that's rich, clear and full of vitality. When he started to sing I couldn't believe the guy was true. He brought Melbourne Festival Hall to a standstill'. In finally putting into order and perspective the early career of this great groundbreaker, Raven tracked down rare photographs and visuals, many from within the Parkinson collection.
