Elastica — британская рок-группа, образовавшаяся в 1992 в Лондоне и исполнявшая альтернативный рок с элементами панк-рока первой британской волны. Elastica выпустила два альбома, первый из которых поднялся на вершину UK Album Charts; три сингла группы входили в первую двадцатку UK Singles Chart.

История группы началась летом 1992, когда Джастин Фришманн и Джастин Уэлч, уйдя из Suede, решили собрать собственную группу. Осенью того же года к ни м присоединились бас-гитаристка Энни Холланд и гитаристка Донна Мэтьюз. Сначала состав назывался Vaseline, затем Onk и наконец, с весны 1993 — Elastica.

Elastica получили известность в 1995, когда дебютный альбом Elastica (#1, UK) обеспечил ей репутацию главной надежды британской рок-сцены. Из альбома вышли 4 сингла, наибольший успех из которых имел «Waking Up» (#13 UK, 1995). Here we find Elastica on a festival tour in the post-Nirvana rock world, recorded before a large soccer stadium audience. It is a hot clear day in New York City, rather on the smaller Randall's Island in the East River, in the old stadium where the New York Cosmos used to get their kicks.
It's so hot out for this afternoon set, you can hear chants in the crowd calling for 'the hose!', which was a large water hose that they sprayed the crowd with from time to time up front.
Elastica are reaching the end of their original lineup. Bassist Annie Hollander will beg out of the group a few weeks later (due to exhaustion and repetitive stress complications to her hands), and the original Elastica group will never be the same.
Guitarist Donna Matthews is better than ever here, though, more vocal - and is the perfect foil for stalwart lead singer/ rhythm guitarist Justine Frischmann. Animal-like, guy-drummer Justin Welch performs admirably as well.
The group are in top form here, tight and energetic, having a good time, and probably trying to impress their backstage luminary friends (among them Sonic Youth, Pavement, Beck, Hole; possibly The Jesus Lizard, Cypress Hill, Yo La Tengo, Sinead O Connor, etc., who were also on the bill).
