Like every other sequel/spin offs of the franchise, everything besides the concept of the immortal swordsmen from the original 1986 movie is altered/retconned to hell so it's better to view this series as an alternate universe inspired by the original movie rather than a direct sequel (this applies pretty much to all the sequels and spin offs bearing the highlander name)
