One game. Seven players. Three rules. Game ends at dawn.

A mind-bending supernatural thriller from the creators of This Presesent Darkness and Showdown. Frank Peretti and Ted Dekker–two of today’s most acclaimed writers of supernatural thrillers–have joined forces for the first time to craft a story unlike any you’ve ever heard. Enter House–where you will find yourself thrown into a killer’s deadly game in which the only way to win is to lose . . . and the only way out is in. One game, seven players, three rules.

The stakes of the game become clear when a tin can is tossed into the house with rules scrawled on it. Rules that only a madman—or worse—could have written. Rules that make no sense yet must be followed.

Kevin King narrates this supernatural thriller using a variety of accents and tones, making characters easily distinguishable. When Jack and Stephanie break down on an old country road in Alabama, they hike to a ram-shackled house called the “Wayside Inn.” Already bickering, they depict their building estrangement with scathing remarks and bitter attitudes–until they enter the house and learn the “rules of the game.” Subtle vocal nuances and changes of vocal texture are riveting as the game begins and other players emerge. Left as a thriller, this would have been good. However, the spiritual dimension at the end compromises the entire story, making it a disappointment. G.D.W. (c) AudioFile 2006
