Textbook in PDF format
The rapid enhancement in the population results in an increased demand for potable water. The use of dyes in industries is increasing constantly and their effluents result in the contamination of groundwater. Reports suggest that around 10% of the dyes are released into the environment without being treated and contribute to the primary causes of water pollution. In addition, the increased utilization of chemical fertilizers and pesticides in agricultural practices has further contributed to the deterioration of the environment. Drinking chemical- containing water increases the risk of developing major health issues like hormone disruption, cancer, kidney and cardiovascular issues, abnormal brain function, among many others. Moreover, wastewater has a detrimental effect on the ability of aquatic organisms to reproduce. It impairs the regeneration and reproduction capacities of fish and plants. As a result of consuming polluted water, animals are also susceptible to a wide range of ailments.
