Né le 7 octobre 1951, JOHN MELLENCAMP est un guitariste, chanteur, acteur, compositeur, réalisateur et artiste-peintre américain.
Il commence sa carrière discographique rock sous le nom de scène John Cougar au milieu des années 1970.
Puis, après les premiers succès avec l'album ‘’American Fool’’, incluant progressivement des éléments
country et folk comme des violons et de l’accordéon, il devient John Cougar Mellencamp
à partir du LP ‘’The Lonesome Jubilee’’.
Enfin, à la fin des années 1980, il simplifie son nom en John Mellencamp.
Il est passé par l’Europe en 1978, notamment en supporting-act de … Blue Öyster Cult !
