The trio with Davies, bassist Dave Whitford and the ever inventive James
Maddren on drums is well documented on Satori’s previous releases, and it is
refreshing to note that they have lost none of their ability to bring out the
hidden depths of the material. Playing with a steely yet pliable group feeling
that is becoming readily identifiable, Davies’s own stature as both
instrumentalist and composer continues to strengthen, and pieces such as the
ballad ‘Hireth’ and ‘Ronas Voe’ that finds the Davies’s tenor playing pushing
into freer territory provide compelling listening. [...]
