L'uomo senza sonno, il film diretto da Brad Anderson, vede protagonista Trevor Reznik (Christian Bale), giovane operaio che non dorme da un anno esatto. L'assenza di riposo, ha reso debole il suo fisico e destabilizzato in maniera profonda la sua mente. Quando un incidente sul lavoro avvenuto per causa sua, provoca la perdita del un braccio di un suo collega, il suo stato psicologico arriva a toccare il punto più basso.

Gli altri operai fanno di tutto perché se ne vada e, come se non bastasse, alcuni strani indizi iniziano a comparire misteriosamente a casa sua: fotografie, post-it con messaggi inquietanti e, per finire, l'apparizione di un uomo che nessun altro oltre lui sembra vedere. Giunto ormai sull'orlo della follia, Trevor farà di tutto per tentare di scoprire cosa gli stia accadendo. Ma le sue ossessioni sono frutto della sua mente oppure è vittima di un complotto che mira a punirlo per gli errori commessi?
