Марсель Диф (фр. Marcel Dyf, наст. имя Marcel Dreyfus) - французский художник, родился в Париже 7 октября 1899 г. в семье промышленников из Эльзаса. В юности он заинтересовался изобразительным искусством, особенно «плотно» он познакомился с такими направлениями, как импрессионизм и постимпрессионизм. Они-то и определили в дальнейшем его индивидуальную стилистику.
В начале 20-х гг. Диф решает стать художником. Финансовая обеспеченность Дифа, конечно же, помогла ему в его творческом становлении, так как избавила его он проблем банального поиска средств к существованию, которые зачастую ставили крест на надеждах многих начинающих в искусстве. В 1923 г. он переезжает в Арль (в Провансе), где покупает мастерскую и начинает, что называется, нарабатывать технику (возможно даже, несколько фанатично) - он осваивает новый для него жанр пейзажа. Диф обучался живописи самостоятельно – т.е. был по сути художником-самоучкой. В течении следующих 13 лет он жил в Арле, вплоть до своего возвращения в Париж в 1935 г. Во время Второй мировой войны он вступил в Сопротивление и жил в Коррезе.
После войны Диф выставлял свои работы в крупнейших городах Франции. В 1950 г. Он приобрел мастерскую в Каннах, здесь же он познакомился со своей будущей женой Клодин (ставшей его постоянной моделью). На момент знакомства Клодин было 19 лет – на 36 лет меньше, чем Дифу. Они поженились в 1965 г., и Клодин, в числе прочего, посвятила свою жизнь бесконечным переездам, так как Диф постоянно нуждался в новых объектах для вдохновения.
Членство в L'Ecole Francais способствовало стремительному прославлению Дифа как художника за пределами Франции, и росту числа его выставок за границей. Вообще же, Диф очень много выставлялся в престижнейших салонах Франции (Salon des Artistes Francais, Salon d'Automne, Salon des Tuilleries), а равно в США и Великобритании.
"Коронные" темы Дифа: букеты цветов, пейзажи Прованса и Бретани, сценки из жизни цыган и молодые девушки (которых он писал со воей жены Клодин). По временному признаку Марселя Дифа следовало бы причислить к понятию "современная живопись". Он жил и творил в ХХ в., когда новые доминирующие художественные направления "забивали" предыдущие буквально за какие-нибудь считанные годы. Свои творческие идеи он начал развивать в то время, когда направления, на которые он опирался, казалось, были безнадежно "отыграны". Причем, двигался Диф скорее обратно ходу развития мировой живописи - т.е. от постимпессионизма к импрессионизму. В его постимпессионистических работах можно найти параллели с М. Утрилло и А. Лебаском, в то время как импрессионистический пласт Дифа базируется на творческих находках А. Сислея, которые использовали так же, например, Ф. Пикабиа (на начальном этапе) и тот же А. Лебаск. Но если Пикабиа лишь начинал от импрессионизма (меняя затем творческие векторы с фантастической скоростью), то Диф, скорее, на нем закончил. И хотя его импрессионистическую модель Дифа нельзя считать "классической", так как она все же была им модернизирована, его, в определенном смысле, можно назвать консервативным художником. В любом случае, Марсель Диф нашел свою творческую нишу и признание, пусть даже и не такое громкое, как те, кто больше экспериментировал или просто был "на волне".
