In deze fascinerende en spannende episodes van de veelgeprezen Italiaanse filmserie La Piovra (The Octopus) zien we hoe de maffia in de jaren 50 een stevige greep krijgt op de Italiaanse politie en politiek.

In het geheim verzamelt hij bewijs tegen de maffia, waarbij hij wordt geholpen door zijn voormalige vriendin Barbara Altamura, die vermoedt dat haar echtgenoot, een rijke bankier, zaken doet met de georganiseerde misdaad.
Terwijl tussen Barbara en inspecteur Arcutti een romance opbloeit, krijgt de maffia lucht van het onderzoek en slaat het noodlot toe.
