The King Of Soul est un coffret de quatre CDs lancé dans le cadre du cinquantième anniversaire de la parution du premier album d'Otis Redding. En 92 chansons, remasterisées en version audiophile et dont plusieurs ont été remixées en version mono en 2008, cette compilation retrace en ordre chronologique la carrière écourtée du plus grand chanteur de musique soul. Ces chansons révèlent toute l'étendu du talent de Redding aussi bien comme parolier que comme interprète du répertoire d'autrui, à la fois la puissance et la subtilité de son style de chant et le dynamisme de ses performances live. Aucune chanson n'est de trop alors que cette compilation ne s'adresse pas aux complétistes mais simplement aux amateurs.
