Jumping Flash! est un jeu vidéo de plateforme à la première personne développé conjointement par
Exact et Ultra et édité par Sony Computer Entertainment. Premier opus de la série Jumping Flash!, il
est sorti initialement sur PlayStation le 28 avril 1995 au Japon, le 29 septembre 1995 en Europe et
le 1er novembre 1995 en Amérique du Nord. Il a été réédité sur le PlayStation Network pour
PlayStation 3 et PlayStation Portable en 2007. Proposé à la première personne, le jeu suit les
aventures de Robbit, un lapin robotique, à la recherche de capsules de propulsion dispersées par le
Baron Aloha, un astrophysicien et antagoniste du jeu. Robbit doit explorer chaque recoin de la
planète Crater pour récupérer toutes les capsules, arrêter Aloha et sauver la planète de la
destruction. Conçu comme une démonstration technologique pour la console PlayStation, le jeu a été
présenté début 1994 sous le titre provisoire de « Spring Man ». Jumping Flash! utilise en
grande partie le moteur de jeu de Geograph Seal, un titre antérieur d'Exact sorti sur l'ordinateur
personnel Sharp X68000.
Considéré comme un précurseur et une vitrine des graphismes 3D sur consoles, Jumping Flash! a
généralement été bien accueilli par la critique, qui a salué ses graphismes et son gameplay de
plateforme 3D unique. Cependant, il a finalement été éclipsé par les jeux de plateforme 3D
ultérieurs de la cinquième génération de consoles. Jumping Flash! a donné naissance à deux
suites : Jumping Flash! 2 et Robbit Mon Dieu. Malgré des critiques extrêmement positives à sa
sortie, et même une présence dans le « Top 100 des meilleurs jeux de tous les temps » de
Next Generation un an plus tard, le jeu a été décrit comme le troisième jeu vidéo le plus
sous-estimé de tous les temps par Matt Casamassina d'IGN en 2007. Il détient également le record du
monde Guinness du « premier jeu vidéo de plateforme en véritable 3D ».
