Jeune étudiante en médecine, Marion March tombe follement amoureuse du Dr Nathan Chess, spécialiste de la chirurgie des mains. Mais du jour au lendemain, il disparaît sans laisser de traces. Quinze ans plus tard, Marion, devenue journaliste, n'a cessé d'aimer Nathan. Sur Facebook, un internaute, "Le Troyen", demande à être son ami, devenant de plus en plus menaçant. Il envoie alors à la jeune femme une photo de Nathan, puis une vidéo où l'on voit le chirurgien, blessé et visiblement prisonnier, demander son aide. Marion, terrifiée, décide d'obéir aux instructions du Troyen, qui la lance dans un sinistre jeu de pistes à travers les Etats-Unis. Pour elle, une seule chose compte : retrouver l'homme de sa vie. Qui sont vraiment Nathan et Le Troyen ? Quelles sont les vraies motivations de ce dernier ?
