Planet Gong était l’une des nombreuses incarnations du Gong à partir des années 1970.
En 1977, Daevid Allen et Gilli Smyth de Gong se sont associés aux membres de Here & Now
pour créer Planet Gong. Le nouveau groupe s'est produit en live au cours
des deux années suivantes, sortant un single et un album live.

En 1991, Planet Gong a été ressuscité par Daevid Allen pour une performance live de l'album Floating Anarchy.
