Доп. информация: Известная Варшавская Осень, которая вдруг появилась в 1956 г., быстро стала музыкальной меккой для любителей авангарда с Востока и Запада. Музыка, звучащая на этом фестивале, уходила далеко от соцреалистической модели. Исполнение такой музыки во всех других соцстранах было бы запрещено политическим декретом. Что же случилось в этом 1956 году? Это было время холодной войны. Борьба шла в основном на поле пропаганды. Надо было Западу показать, что может социалистическое общество. А так как не было чем похвастаться в хозяйстве, кто-то, кто был одновременно близко к влиятельным лицам в государстве и сам был серым кардиналом польского Союза Композиторов, придумал: а может быть, вот так шокировать мир открытостью и современностью на поле культуры. Это никому не повредит, рабочие и так на фестивальные концерты не пойдут, а заказные массовые песни и кантаты "для славы" будут рождаться на столах даже самых авангардных композиторов. И так власть акцептировала Осень, получая взамен отличный экспортный товар - визитную карточку социализма. Чтобы ситуация не вышла из-под контроля,- так как контроль должен был быть установлен, как мы знаем, над всем и вся,- оформили втихую определенные точные принципы выбора под эгидой союза, который управлял единственным в стране фестивалем "опасной" музыки. Таким образом начал существовать варшавско-осенний истеблишмент. Варшавский фестиваль стал легендой.
По политическим причинам ежегодный фестиваль отменяли даже дважды -- в 1957 и в 1982 годах. Поэтому и полувековой юбилей «Варшавская осень» отмечала два раза -- в 2006 и в 2007 годах.
Хотя середина 50-х годов ХХ века и в Польше считалась «оттепелью», а целью организаторов фестиваля «Варшавская осень» было всего лишь себя показать и на других посмотреть, с самого начала он был больше чем фестиваль: «ВО» во многом определял уровень взаимоотношений искусства (в данном случае -- музыкального) и власти в странах социалистического лагеря. В 1972 году, например, из СССР в последнюю минуту вместо экспериментатора Эдисона Денисова прислали Тихона Хренникова (хотя Денисов таки появился в программе -- под псевдонимом, как соавтор коллективного камерного сочинения «Энциклопедия»). А уже в ХХI веке был освистан и обозван «соцреалистическим» концерт не кого-нибудь, а живого классика польской музыки Кшиштофа Пендерецкого.
