Plot

Veteran Boston cop Nick Walker (Reynolds) is killed by his long-time partner after the two keep gold recovered during a drug bust. Walker is sent to the afterlife and because of his law-enforcement skills is offered a position with R.I.P.D. (the Rest In Peace Department) as an alternative to almost-certain eternal punishment. Assigned as the new partner of long-time RIPD officer Roy Pulsipher (Bridges), a lawman from the Old West, the two are assigned to retrieve renegade souls who have evaded the afterlife. They find that the gold that Walker and his partner stole are components to an ancient artifact that will allow the dead to return to Earth and must fight an organization of "dead-ohs" to prevent the artifact from being assembled.
