Synopsis:

In a small, surreal Georgian town, the tyrannical local mayor, Varlam Aravidze, passes away and is buried with full honors. However, the following morning, his corpse mysteriously reappears in his family's garden. No matter how many times the authorities rebury him, a defiant local woman named Ketevan Barateli repeatedly digs him up. Arrested and put on trial, Ketevan refuses to apologize, using the courtroom as a grand stage to expose Varlam's horrifying legacy of totalitarian purges, bureaucratic terror, and the erasure of innocent citizens. A masterpiece of anti-Stalinist satire, the film serves as a haunting allegory of memory, historical guilt, and the necessity of justice.
