Helix le quatrième album de Legacy Pilots confirme tout le bien que je pensais du groupe !
Comme à son habitude le multi-instrumentiste Frank Us s’est entouré d’une pléiade de musiciens chevronnés (Todd Sucherman, Marco Minnemann, Pete Trewavas, Lars Slowak, John Mitchell, Jake Livgren, Finally George, Steven Rothery) pour mener à bien cette nouvelle production.
Huit titres dont deux suites ‘Re·Sponse’ (17:31) et ‘Exploring My DNA’ (14:12) régalent nos oreilles d’une musique qui s’inspire aussi allègrement de Genesis et d’Alan Parsons que de Toto et d’Asia.
Rien à redire sur l’ensemble des titres, au programme : mélodies fines et ciselées, inspiration permanente et maitrise instrumentale de tous les instants. Le plus de l’album est sa variété.
On y trouve des morceaux instrumentaux (‘re-sponse’ I, III) des pièces de prog symphonique style ELP (‘So NICE to be here’), des ambiances sonores jazzy (Colors & Light), du rock AOR (‘The Even Chance’).
Au final, un Helix au rock progressif bien équilibré qui nous renvoie aux meilleures représentations du genre…
