George Roger Waters (born 6 September 1943 in Great Bookham, England) is a British rock musician, vocalist, bass guitarist, composer, poet and activist. He is best known as one of the founders (late 1965) and leaders (from late 1967 until his departure in 1984) of the band Pink Floyd. During his leadership, he was the author of the vast majority of the lyrics and much of the music, as well as the main ideologist of the group and the main author of the group's most famous conceptual album, The Wall. Since the mid-1970s, a gradual deterioration in relations between the musicians in the group began, and Waters' share in the composition of albums continued to increase, sometimes reducing the other musicians to only the role of arrangers. This resulted in the departure of keyboardist Richard Wright from Pink Floyd in 1981, and on the subsequent album The Final Cut, Waters became almost the sole writer. In 1985, Waters left the band, deciding that it had run its course. During his solo career, Waters released four studio albums: The Pros and Cons of Hitch Hiking (1984), Radio K.A.O.S. (1987), Amused to Death (1992) and Is This the Life We Really Want? (2017), as well as the opera Ça Ira (2005), dedicated to the events of the French Revolution, and a reimagining of Stravinsky's opera The Soldier's Tale (2018). In 1990, he organized one of the largest rock concerts in history, The Wall Live in Berlin, with an audience of over 450,000 people. Since 1999, Waters has been actively touring, becoming the most commercially successful solo artist in 2012 with his The Wall Live tour. He is a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (1996) and the UK Music Hall of Fame (2005), as a member of Pink Floyd
