En phase de divorce, Mary déménage dans une nouvelle maison. Traumatisée par son futur ex-mari, un homme caractériel et violent, elle essaie tant bien que mal de tourner la page. Un soir, elle reçoit un coup de téléphone d'une inconnue sur l'ancien appareil qui traînait dans le salon avant son arrivée.
