A young man tries to overcome the hostility of his girlfriend’s father, a hard-bitten tuna fisherman in a remote northern Japanese village, by persuading the older man to teach him the secrets of the dangerous trade. What begins as a test of acceptance turns into a gripping, multi-season story of obsession, family fracture, and the brutal pull of the sea.
