C'est la suite de The Matrix Revolutions (2003) et le quatrième volet de la série de films The Matrix. Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss,
Lambert Wilson et Jada Pinkett Smith reprennent leurs rôles des films précédents de la série, rejoints par Yahya Abdul-Mateen II,
Jessica Henwick, Jonathan Groff, Neil Patrick Harris, Priyanka Chopra Jonas et Christina Ricci. Le film a été produit par Village
Roadshow Pictures et Venus Castina Productions et distribué par Warner Bros. Pictures.

En septembre 2021, Warner Bros. a confirmé que Johnny Klimek et Tom Tykwer composeraient le film, ayant déjà collaboré
avec Wachowski sur Sense8 et Cloud Atlas, en remplacement de Don Davis, qui a composé la musique des trois premiers films.
La chanson « White Rabbit » de Jefferson Airplane figure en bonne place dans la bande-annonce. Wachowski a déclaré que le choix
de "White Rabbit" pour la bande-annonce faisait non seulement référence aux éléments d'Alice's Adventures in Wonderland que
Matrix avait précédemment utilisés et sur lesquels "White Rabbit" est basé, mais également un clin d'œil à Jefferson Airplane
eux-mêmes qui était formé en tant que groupe maison pour le club Matrix à San Francisco. La deuxième bande-annonce
présentait une interprétation électronique / orchestrale de la chanson "Wake Up" de Rage Against the Machine, qui figurait
en bonne place à la fin du premier film de Matrix.
