Le soldat, Jonathan Pine, est devenu directeur de nuit dans un hôtel. Il croise la route de Sophie, une proche de Richard Onslow Roper, qui opère sur le marché noir des armes. Sophie fournit à Pine des documents incriminant Roper. Pine essaie d'infiltrer le cercle intime de Roper en devenant un criminel lui-même, tout en gardant secrète sa mission de ses collègues et de sa conjointe.
