[spoiler="info"]
The Petards are one of those 1960's German beat bands that were key to the development of the roots of the Krautrock scene. They were not an essential act that you should seek-out, but an important piece of pre-history.
Basically, the were one of the earliest of German beat and pop bands to model themselves on the new Anglo-American sound. Much touted as better than most pop acts, and in fact their debut LP is quite psychedelic. However, they are pretty mainstream stuff on the whole, and mostly remind me of the Sweet and other UK bubblegum of the era.
Reputedly, The Petards were a wide-ranging band throughout their career and, not unlike (say) Status Quo, they moved from beat, through to prog and hard-rock - on the apparently "classic" double PET-ARTS - and then back to pop again, but then folded after they had lost their audience.
The Petards are the roots of Klaus Ebert, much later in Amon Düül II and Bernd Wippich of Randy Pie and other bands, which at least makes them of historical interest. ~ the crack in the cosmic egg
