The X From Outer Space/Big Space Monster Guilala

A team of scientists on their way to Mars collect a strange object off of their shuttle's thruster and returns to Earth with it. When it hatches into a massive energy-eating spiky-headed monster from beyond the stars (which they promptly and inexplicably nickname "Guilala"), they must find a way to destroy it...before it's TOO LATE!!

Next to Gamera, The X From Outer Space (Uchu daikaiju Girara), aka Big Space Monster Guilala, is my favorite Japanese "guy-in-a-rubber-monster-suit" film ever. Granted it's probably a little funnier dubbed, this subtitled (and widescreen) version I tivo'd off of Turner Classic Movies still cracks us up around here. Hard as it is to believe, this 1967 film's sequel is slated to come out in Japan the summer of 2008! Why the original has yet to hit DVD in the States is beyond me, but now you can download and watch this gem right now. Dooo iiit! :D
