Requirements
You will need somewhere to take notes as you progress through the course (e.g. a journal, the notes app on your phone, etc.). This will be very important as you will be referring back to these notes in the weeks/months after you complete the course. No additional software is required beyond the Udemy website. There is a visual component to some of the lessons in this course, so it is recommended that you watch the course as well as listen (versus receiving the information podcast-style). Lastly - and most importantly - please bring an open mind. This course was developed with ALL children in mind - including children whose development does not follow standard norms, and children who may require extra support in the areas of attention and communication. You will be offered reframes and different ways to connect with your child. Through all of this, I ask that you bring an open mind and an attitude of acceptance and grace as we widen our view of what it means to connect with a child. Created by a certified Speech-Language Pathologist, this course teaches parents and caregivers how to use simple, joyful music routines to support early communication development. You’ll learn how rhythm/melody and playful musical interactions can strengthen your child’s attention, engagement, vocabulary, and early expressive skills. This course is for ALL children, whether they communicate through gestures, sounds, AAC, or emerging words.Rooted in neurodiversity-affirming, connection-based practice, this course helps you understand why music is such a powerful tool for young children and how to adapt songs and musical moments to your child’s developmental level and sensory needs. No musical background is required.Music is deeply wired into the brain. It slows down interaction, increases predictability, engages multiple senses, and provides natural opportunities for anticipation, turn-taking, and expressive communication. Through rhythm, repetition, and melody, children can practice foundational language skills in a way that feels fun, safe, and low-pressure.By the end of this course, you’ll be able to use predictable musical routines to foster joint attention, build early vocabulary, encourage turn-taking, support regulation, and create more shared joy in everyday interactions. Whether your child is just beginning to communicate or already using early words, these strategies will help you create more connection, more engagement, and more shared joy in your daily routines.
