The 11th volume of the ongoing Now That's What I Call Country series rounds up 18 hits from 2016 through 2018, balancing bro-country holdovers with R&B-inflected pop and the occasional straightforward traditional country. It's a good portrait of the changing times, containing an abundance of fine singles: Maren Morris' aching "I Could Use a Love Song," the neon splash of Jordan Davis' "Singles You Up," Darius Rucker's warmly nostalgic "For the First Time," Luke Combs' "When It Rains It Pours," Luke Bryan's empathetic "Most People Are Good," Old Dominion's sweet "Written in the Sand," and Midland's '80s throwback "Drinkin' Problem." These are the tunes that anchor the collection, helping it turn into a good portrait of the sound of mainstream country circa 2018.
