Warrant is an American glam metal band from Los Angeles, formed in 1984 by vocalist Adam Shore and drummer Max Escher.
In 1988, their debut album, "Dirty Rotten Filthy Stinking Rich," was released. The band released three hit singles: "Down Boys," "Sometimes She Cries," and "Heaven" (the latter reaching number two on the US charts). Following the album's release, Warrant embarked on their first major American tour, supporting such bands as Queensrÿche, Cinderella, Poison, and Kingdom Come.
Their second album, "Cherry Pie," was released in 1990 and was also a success, largely due to the title track. In 1990, the band initially opened for Poison but later transitioned to headlining status. The following year, Warrant toured Europe with David Lee Roth. This tour ended tragically for Jani Lane, who fell off stage and broke a rib. After Lane's recovery, Warrant toured the United States.
In 1992, under producer Michael Wagener, they recorded their third album, Dog Eat Dog. Although considered the band's strongest work, sales were modest and the disc only achieved gold status.
Columbia, dissatisfied with the sales of their latest album, terminated their contract with Warrant. The band began a constant cycle of member turnover. Jani Lane left the band for a time, then the band's longtime manager, Tom Hulet, died. In 1994, Joy Allen and Stephen Sweet left the band. They were replaced by Rick Stater and James Kottak, and with the help of keyboardist Dave White, the band began recording their next album, Ultraphobic. The album was released in 1995. Although the album was produced in the style of "Dog Eat Dog," grunge was popular at the time, and its influence was already felt on this disc. In 1996, James Kottak left the band and made way for Bobby Borg on drums, but he only stayed with the band for about a year and was replaced by Vikki Fox. In 1998, Danny Wagner filled the vacant position. He remained on drums for two years before leaving the band in 2000, along with Rick Steyer. The new members of the band were Mike Fasano (drums) and guitarist Keri Kelly. After touring with Ratt and L.A. Guns, Kelly moved to Slash's Snakepit, and the vacancy was filled by longtime friend Billy Morris.
Jani Lane suffered from alcohol addiction in recent years. In 2003, Jani Lane left the band and released a solo album titled Back Down to One.
In 2010, Jani Lane was sentenced to 120 days in jail after being arrested again for drunk driving.
On August 11, 2011, Jani Lane was found dead in a hotel room near Los Angeles
