pachyderm is a rare alliance between an Englishman and a Frenchman – Tom Jarvis (guitars/vocals/keyboards/bass) and Nico Braesch (drums/percussion/vocals).

In 2009, Tom Jarvis (guitar/vocals) made the move from Sheffield (UK) to Montreal after packing all his instruments on a slow cargo ship leaving from Liverpool. During Tom’s first week in Montreal a music shopkeeper invited him to a party where he met Nico Braesch (drums/vocals), who had recently moved from Alsace (France) chasing fame, fortune, love, and rock and roll.

The band began by making purely improvised music; playing live shows in car parks, beneath underpasses, and drained out swimming pools. From these improvisations pachyderm created the songs which formed their debut album, Parabola. Taking influences from Pink Floyd (Live at Pompeii), Serge Gainsbourg and Dumbo, the album was recorded on a 16 track recorder in two weeks and self-produced at CCTV Studios in Montreal. The album was released on vinyl in 2011.

A 45-minute film based on the music of Parabola and also featuring the band was shown at Cinéma du Parc, Montreal in Fall 2011. The film, directed by Dominique Loubier, is an impressionistic road movie filmed in the Eastern townships of Québec and in downtown Montreal.

Hosted by pachyderm, The Zodiak Club is a series of shows held in atypical public spaces. A live album was released in Fall 2012, which was taken from one of pachyderm’s performances at the Zodiak Club.

In July 2013 Pachyderm performed with Damo Suzuki (ex-singer with CAN) as his Sound Carriers at Le Divan Orange. A live album from this concert was released in February 2014.

In May 2014 the album T-CE! was released on vinyl through Brothers and Sisters Records. The original inspiration for the album came from a 1940’s National Film Board of Canada movie about the Trans-Canada Express railway. T-CE!, was written and recorded at CCTV Studios in summer 2012.

pachyderm are now affiliated with Brothers and Sisters Records who released their third album, Two Weeks of Spring, in 2015 on double vinyl and to download. TWOS reaches into the netherworld between Eastern and Western musical traditions; the Hijaz melodies of the Midde-East, the Raga of Indian folk, the Tuareg blues of the Sahara, the spiritual sonics of Krautrock, and fuses it all with the power and the fury of rock.

In September 2015 pachyderm played at the 5th Montreal Psych Festival.
